Twins sign Mike Pelfrey. I kinda wanted him as a buy low coming off TJ signing.
Hopefully they can land one of Parra, Villanueva or Liriano. I'm on the buy low and take a chance wagon over throwing money at EJax or Lohse

It's a second-round pick. If you like a player at the MLB level, there's just no way you can let a second-round pick stand in the way. Second-round picks mostly suck.
my problem with another buy low 1 year contract SP is that next year we would have to remake the entire rotation again. Shark only starter under control after next year. no one in house outside of 2 longshots Viz and that guy from rangers deal. thin SP market next year. SP market gets thiner every year with teams locking up their aces.
adding at least 1 long term solution to SP needs to happen. almost doesnt count.
also those guys only get 1 year deals for a reason, bad year, dropping production, losing velocity/command, injury history... im not aganist any buy lows its just having a rotation of 4 guys on 1 year deals isnt the best long term plan.
What are you going to do for 2013 and 2014?

If that's the plan, lets resign prior

2013 you likely lose, but Jackson won't change that.
2014 my dream is Price/Garza/Samardzija/Appel/Vizcaino or Wood or Steve Traschel. Plus you Rondon in the draft.
I was going to point that out, but he's a pretty advanced prospect it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility. Unlikely though

Yeah he's "advanced", but he's not close to Prior/Strasburg level and even those guys had about 50 IPs in the minors. Old Style mentioned Leake and I'm not even sure what the Reds were thinking with him.
With Theo/Hoyer in charge and if they drafted Appel, the earliest he'll be with the Cubs is midseason 2014. Even that's impressive. Also I'm not sure if I want Appel.
Yeah Appel being a fast move would not shock me at all. He needs to be coached up a little (rocks a little in his mechanics, which might be a rhythm thing for him but it can shift momentum some), but relative to a prospect he's extremely polished. For instance, Verlander was a hard throwing college guy who was seen as a little rough around the edges, but a couple of tweaks and he dominated 118 innings in the minors.
Mid-late 2014 is probably more reasonable.
