Marcum and Jackson don't costs picks. Only guys left that do are Lohse, Laroche, Swisher, Bourn, Soriano.

My Bad. I thought Jackson and Marcum would cost a pick. If either does not, I do expect the Cubs to get one of them. It makes sense to get one of them and they deal Garza to strengthen the minor league system.

I can't see Jackson getting more then 4 years at 52 million. I know his WAR and such is right there with a guy like Sanchez. But I don't think he's valued the same around the league as Sanchez and the way he's bounced around teams kinda proves that. Plus numbers like ERA still matters when it comes matters, because they are actual results. Well in that case your talking about a guy who's had a 4.47 ,3.79 and 4.03 ERA the past 3 seasons. While playing on five different teams. So Jackson isn't going to get the money he wants. So at some point he will have to lower his demands and when he does the might be a good buy for the Cubs.

I would go as high as 4/60, but really I think the Cubs would be better off offering 3 years and an option 4th.

I do think Jackson can stabilize a little with some coaching.

lineups aren't constucted like a pitching staff where it is the best at the top...this is a pretty poor comp. Samardja also showed shaky control at times during the season and didn't put up the kind of season trout did. If you wanna say he could be better than jackson that is fine. I'm not ready to anoint him better after 1 season.

David Price had 11 games of 3 or more walks, Samardzija had 7. Samardzija had 2 whole starts all year where he walked 5 and 6 guys. If Samardzija has shakey control we best stay away from that Price guy. People act like guys who can hit 99 mph after 9 innings grow on freaking trees.

Highly doubt E-Jax will get $2-3 mil less per year AAV than Anibal. He'll get four years from somebody for at least $14 mil per.

I'm not going to argue that Price and Samarzdija are in the same class. They aren't. The point that I was trying to make was that his control was nowhere near shaky last year. If you considered his control shaky then Price also has shaky control.

Much of the OPS difference in opponents is I'm guessing having the DH vs pitcher. Here is how awesome Price is though, .602 OPS against (.284 OBA, .318 SLG). Samardzija had a .698 OPS against (.302 OBA, .396 SLG).

True, I forgot about the DH. AL OPS is .731 while the NL OPS is .721 IIRC.

I just worry that Samardzija gets put on a pedestal here that he is more likely to not live up to than otherwise.

Interesting enough last year was Jackson's OPS low of .716. His next lowest is 2009 at .725. 2008 .796, 2010 .735 2011 .768 for a career OPS of .766.

Samardzija gets put on a pedestal because he has a great arm and spilt finger and had a really good year that could lead to him being a TOR pitcher in the future.
