David Price had 11 games of 3 or more walks, Samardzija had 7. Samardzija had 2 whole starts all year where he walked 5 and 6 guys. If Samardzija has shakey control we best stay away from that Price guy. People act like guys who can hit 99 mph after 9 innings grow on freaking trees.
The Padres and Jackson continue to negotiate towards a three-year deal, a team source tells Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and MLB Network Radio (via Twitter). Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com tweets the Rangers also have interest in Jackson.
Interesting it doesn't look like Jackson is getting interest for more than 3 years. Would love to sign him to 3-36 or 3 -39.
^Cubs should just offer him 4/55 and try to sign him fast.
The Best Wrestler in the World.... Go Cubs!!!
Does it really matter where pitchers are slotted? Not like the rotation stays in the same order throughout the season anyways

Price pitches in a division where the average team finished over .500. Samardzija pitches in a division where the average team finished under .500.
Price pitches in a division where the average team put up a .735 OPS when the rest of the baseball word is putting up a .724 OPS. Samardzija's division opponents puts up a .724 OPS.
We are going to miss out on Edwin Jackson, aren't we? Oh well, Vallenueva come on down.![]()
Screw sabermetics.
I'm not going to argue that Price and Samarzdija are in the same class. They aren't. The point that I was trying to make was that his control was nowhere near shaky last year. If you considered his control shaky then Price also has shaky control.
Much of the OPS difference in opponents is I'm guessing having the DH vs pitcher. Here is how awesome Price is though, .602 OPS against (.284 OBA, .318 SLG). Samardzija had a .698 OPS against (.302 OBA, .396 SLG).
True, I forgot about the DH. AL OPS is .731 while the NL OPS is .721 IIRC.
I just worry that Samardzija gets put on a pedestal here that he is more likely to not live up to than otherwise.
What Straight Edge said
Interesting enough last year was Jackson's OPS low of .716. His next lowest is 2009 at .725. 2008 .796, 2010 .735 2011 .768 for a career OPS of .766.
Samardzija gets put on a pedestal because he has a great arm and spilt finger and had a really good year that could lead to him being a TOR pitcher in the future.
Cubs sign Jensen Lewis to minor league deal.
