Lakers' Kobe: Knicks' Melo harder to defend than Heat's LeBron

Kobe Bryant (L) and Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony is the hardest man to defend in the NBA – at least according to Kobe Bryant.

The Lakers star said Anthony, the Knicks’ MVP candidate, is the “most difficult” guy for him to guard in the league, even harder than LeBron James, he told ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith on Tuesday.

    “For me?” Bryant said. “Yeah.”

Bryant called Anthony, who is averaging 27.7 points per game this year, “a bull” and says he “does it all.”

“I’m [180 pounds] soaking wet,” said Bryant, who is Melo’s teammate on Team USA. “Going up against that bull, it’s fun, but it’s hard.”

As for the Knicks, Bryant said they’re playing right now “with a belief.”

“They believe that they deserve to be in the championship conversation,” Kobe said.

The Knicks play the Lakers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night.

Kobe's always been a fan of melo. He has made public remarks about passing the torch onto melo when he retires. Their play styles are almost identical.

I'm more surprised that Kobe only weighs 180

There's no doubt that LeBron has a scary combo of speed, power, size, etc. but in terms of the complete offensive arsenal, Melo has it all

Pierce said something similar in a preseason interview. They asked who was his toughest guard and said Melo, then said or Lebron, he couldnt decide between but said Melo has given more fits over the years.

I remember in the playoffs when Kobe guarded melo, melo ate him. They double and triple teamed him the rest of the way, refs basically allowed Kobe to foul melo. Thats when I realized how good melo was. That was mind blowing.

I'm not sure why weight comes in to play? Basically Carmello is 25 lbs heavier than Kobe, Lebron is 25 lbs more than Melo and Dwight Howard heavier than him.

But what does that have to do with anything? I would think height, speed, speed of release, range, moves, handle etc... would all play into the discussion as well.
