Wellp I guess it's two years of Napoli or bust (Jerry Sands).
No point in surrendering draft picks to sign aging players for a non-contending team
once again it took 40+ days for Drew to get his contract finilized.... dont worry
I'm not going to lie, I'd much rather take the risk on Napoli over signing one of Laroche or Swisher.
I would absolutely hate if we did such a thing.

Guess who? The future X-Presdent...

Ben said during the dempster interview that they are still working on #s, and until there is any new news there is nothing to report.
PAPI SMASH!
Yes, But Dempster was talking like Napoli was already his teammate.
sounds like they are confident
FIGHT OWENS FIGHTPOWER. BOMB. EVERYBODY.
https://twitter.com/Ken_RosenthalFOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Mike Napoli's three-year, $39 million contract with the Red Sox is being delayed due to a problem with one of his hips.
Rosenthal says it's an issue that led to the Mariners backing off their initial pursuit of Napoli, and something that might have concerned the Rangers, as well. The Red Sox are "trying to rework" Napoli's deal, according to Rosenthal, though it's not clear specifically what language in the contract they might be trying to change. There seems to be a very real chance at this point that the deal will fall through.
Napoli fit the plan well. The Red Sox have to appear not to be the bad guy here to other agents. No egg on face needed.
I hate the alternatives.
Trades will be too expensive for an average type guy and cost actual useful specs - or
We'll use Sands, Gomez, Salty, Lavarnway perhaps in ST and get held up when they don't work.
Sign LaRoche, the wrong guy at the wrong time for too much money.
Swisher the best choice - big money and big years. Damn.

^^ If you read the Rosenthal article he actually goes into the dynamics of the Napoli market in the wake of his issue with the Sox and specifically mentions the comments of some MLBPA-type who says the Sox are justified in their caution. If an MLBPA guy is saying that, it's not good news.
Yeah it is pretty ugly out there. I am frustrated with this situation. If the hip is that bad, Napoli can't afford to walk away as we can still offer a lot of $$ up front, and it shouldn't be that hard to finish up. If it isn't THAT bad, just go forward. I'd rather have $13 million in dead weight in the third year, than sign Swisher to 4 years and give up a daft pick, lose a pick for Laroche, or give up prospects in a trade with a jacked up asking price because of the pathetic FA market.
