At the very least Youkilis will inject some youth into this team. He'll only be 34 next year.

Plenty of sites do all the work for you these days. I simply looked at the stats. It's honestly not that hard to figure out why his production is going down. He's not hitting fastballs as well, and more balls put onto the ground. GBs work great for guys like Ichiro, Gardner, or other fast players. Not so well for a guy like Youk.

Nobody is predicting the worst. It's a realistic expectation that Youk wouldn't be as productive as he has been in year's past. His recent batted ball tendencies and other peripherals haven't been the most positive.
If he manages a .280/.370/.500 type year then that would be a pleasant surprise and would help this team plenty. It's just not realistic to expect that at this point.
I'd say what he has done in the past couple years is a lot more reliable of what he'll do in the future than just blind faith he'll be good again.
Believe me, I'm hoping he has a productive year. Thats my point though, it'd be nice not to have to hope half our lineup has good years.
