Olivo averages 14 50 .240 in a typical 400 AB season...That's a huge improvement over what we have had the last few years. Re-sign Hairston and maybe we can limp through with Niuewenhuis in center.

He would make Lucas Duda look like Roberto Clemente in the OF, plus you would have to insist that he do community service at local Synogoges and do a Sandy Koufax and not play on Yom Kippur to make up for his atrocious behavior last year in NYC.

With the Fred Wilpon's close friendship with Koufax I doubt they would even entertain a thought of signing him.

These threads are depressing. Posters censor themselves from even thinking about first rate players, or second rate players for that matter.

For what it's worth (nothing!) Andruw Jones has already signed to play in Japan.

If you think this list is depressing wait til you see next year's list when they'll supposedly be spending.

Ross or bust. They really need to start making some deals already.

I like that option too...that's why I bolded his name. Randy Neimann said a few years ago when I played Fantasy Camp that you need to leave spring training with eight starting pitcher candidates to allow for injuries and slumps. Five start, one becomes a swingman and the other two are either at the end of your bullpen or at AAA ready in case you need them. If Dickey goes Liriano would love to be reunited with Johan and may take a bit less to be with him again. If he excels we got a steal...if he flops he gets cut...but I like the idea of low risk, high reward retreads vs. the McHugh types who are really AAAA pitchers.

I can see them signing a guy like Ryan Raburn. He will cost nothing and has had some success in the past.

    And yes, it's depressing.

According to my calculations, current payroll is about $30 million under last year's, so there's money to invest.

Catchers: none of the above. We need to trade for a decent, young C. My choice-Hector Sanchez (SFG) but Arencibia looks more accessable.

Infielders: Personally, I'd resign Ronny Cedeno or Ryan Theriot for the bench. But I'd also give Chone Figgens a try on the cheap.

Outfielders: I'll get killed for this, but if we don't get a good CF in a Dickey trade, I'd stretch and sign Michael Bourn. (5 yrs/$80 million - $10 in 2013, then $16-$17-$17-$16 with a $4 million buyout option for 2018) Then, Hairston, of course, and Nyjer Morgan.

Starters: Resign Pelfrey for $4 million, and Jair Jurrjens & Dallas Braden (if healthy) to incentive based contracts.

Relievers: Matt Lindstrom and Peter Moylan

Just curious - if the Wilpons stick all or most of that money in their pockets, will you finally admit winning games isn't their top priority?

They'll spend the next month debating what to do with Dickey and when they finally do all the expensive FA's will be gone. It's part of the off-season plan "We didn't feel the players available would help us much". Ya see?
