As a powerlifter I don't even touch straps. Maybe if I'm plateauing and wanna see if I can reach a sick dead, but in the end it doesn't count. Straps are illegal in competition

    Just ditch straps
I was unclear then. I lifted without them until my final heavy set.

It can happen. especially when going heavy. The long head of the bicep is in full effect if you slightly curl the bar which people tend to do when they cannot manage or balance the weight correctly.

I can see this with a double underhand grip. A lot less with mixed grip I would think.

Ok let's think about this logically. Which version of a grip is tighter? An overhand or underhand?

It would be an underhand grip....

So with that being said, the underhand gripped side will undergo more stress as it has to compensate for the slightly weaker overhand grip side.

    Make sense?

There are injury risks involved with every lift....

For every bicep tear you see on deadlifts, I can show you a pectoral tear from bench.

I can show you an example of several 800+ lb deadlifters who have been training for years with a mixed grip.

i dead lifted 5X315lbs yesterday and it felt like all my joints were going to explode. mixed grip. I cant fathom people who put up 400lbs+

felt really good lifting that though.

I'm still waiting to see a pic of Flakey, he puts up good numbers based on his log.

The most I've ever dead'd was 455. I weighed 220 at the time.

count me in the nearing 400 club. Might be there now actually but I'm just not comfortable going more than like 90-95% on deads. 350 went up somewhat easy a few months back and I'm definitely way stronger (and heavier) than I was then. May try 4 plates before the end of the year.
