If the Wilpons went at Hamilton with lets say 5yr for 130 to say 135 he may take that, and Bourn's market is shrinking so Boris may go with say 2ys at 35 to 40 so it would only be adding say top end 46 million a year they have that

Once you take Hamilton off the market Bourn's value goes up. It works the other way around as well.

2013 is a lot like 1985 IMO we are starting to see some young pieces come together but we are still a few short (basically an entire outfield and bullpen) but there will be some positives

I would like to share your optimism but, 1985? I might agree with 1983 but not 1985...although the shortstop position is fairly similar to '85, Tejada is a lot closer to Rafael Santana than Jose Reyes...

Getting a couple young OF's or even one would be great for the hope in 2014. If we could get Olt and Martin from Texas, all of a sudden there is a lot more to look forward to.

Reasons for hope in 2013?

1. Anyone who soesn't see that Alderson is deliberately creating a large gap between his offer to Dickey and Dickey's requirement, is blind. (An offer of 2 yrs/$22 million with a $3 million buyout on a 3rd year option is eminently fair and would give Dickey the 2/$25 he wants.) He wants to prolong the negotiations until he sees the best offers he gets. So, next year we'll either have a great rotation headed by R.A., or a very good rotation and a few top prospects or major league ready players in the fold. Win-win.

2. We are currently about $30 million below last year's payroll. That gives Alderson an awful lot of the "payroll flexibility" he always talks about. I'm not saying he'll spend it all, but he certainly has the leeway to go out, once he sees what he has banked after a Dickey trade, and spend on either free agents or trades. There are several good players out there who would fill our needs. And it is still very early in the off season.

3. Our youth movement (Davis, Tejada, Niese, Gee, Harvey, Edgin, and perhaps even Nieuwenhuis and Duda) should continue to mature and improve. Minor leaguers like Wheeler and Flores could come up and make a significant contribution. And we have a great group of young pitchers (both starters and relievers) waiting in the wings.

IMO, by the time pitchers and catchers report, this will be a much better team than the one we put on the field last season . . the one that was still in contention at the All Star break.
