youve got 2 types of new ownership in baseball, the one that wants to spend, and the one that wants to make money off the team. That basically sums up this equation.

Anyways, Im kind of glad that the Dodgers are doing what theyre doing, it means I wont be able to complain about the Yankees having the highest payroll in the league.

Matt Barkley. You don't even need the whole team

Well, that may be true, it helps when you have a 6 B dollar TV deal. This is the main reason why they can spend all this crap, and it's ridiculous.

Fox and the Los Angeles Dodgers could agree to a TV deal according to the LA Times worth over $6 billion, more than 20 times what the team is making on their current TV deal. This would put the Dodgers at the top of the class in terms of MLB TV rights.
The proposed deal the Dodgers and Fox are discussing would be worth $240 million per season. In 2013, the Yankees will make $85 million for their rights, nearly a third of the Dodgers deal
So, yeah. It's not surprising they are willing to spend when they have all that money coming in just on that.

Yeah, this 800,000 payroll for Houston is just temporary, it won't approach a high number but I expect it to be around 30-40 million.
    Favourite Teams:

    Boston Red Sox: 27-17
Indianapolis Colts: Decent draft, no new wide reciever though.
Detroit Pistons: Looking forward to the draft and whoever the new coach will be
Ottawa Senators: Down 2 to 1 to Pittsburgh, Game 4 on Wednesday Night, Game 5 on Friday Night and Game 6 on Sunday Night (If necessary)

    Beautiful:

Idk if a salary cap will ever happen, but a salary floor definitely needs to happen. As a Dodger fan I am now opposed to having a salary cap, it's pretty awesome having unlimited money.

It's not like the Astros are perenial cheapskates. Thy are developing home grown talent, twy aren't going to compete at the MLB level regardless of how much they spend, and they have a new ownership group. Why not go with a cheap payroll, pay down some of the debt used to finance the buy, develop homegrown prospects and then open up the wallet when the core of the team is ready to be ood

It's funny how many pitchers throw perfect games/no hitters and you never hear from them again.

The Astros have $800,000 in total payroll commitments vs $210,130,953 for the dodgers

Zach Grienke will now buy the Astros

Thats why there needs to be a salary cap and a salary minimum. No team should be allowed over 150 million and no team should be under 50 mllion.Thats why you will always have a team or two that will spend like the Yankees and Red Sox and now the Dodgers and the Phillies. Its a joke

The Phillies have 1, have played in 2, and the Dodgers just started spending in August.
