The Astros have $800,000 in total payroll commitments vs $210,130,953 for the dodgers

RT @JeffPassan: Dodgers have $210,130,953 in commitments for players on their roster. The Astros have $800,000"

For those wondering if that's real, here is Astros' current balance sheet: http://bit.ly/XE4gWD . Only Phil Humber, at $800K, under contract

uhhhhh, they have to pay the other 24 at least league min.

    So, make it 10 milllion.

Marlins might be joining them if they trade Nolasco

youve got 2 types of new ownership in baseball, the one that wants to spend, and the one that wants to make money off the team. That basically sums up this equation.

Anyways, Im kind of glad that the Dodgers are doing what theyre doing, it means I wont be able to complain about the Yankees having the highest payroll in the league.

Well, that may be true, it helps when you have a 6 B dollar TV deal. This is the main reason why they can spend all this crap, and it's ridiculous.

Fox and the Los Angeles Dodgers could agree to a TV deal according to the LA Times worth over $6 billion, more than 20 times what the team is making on their current TV deal. This would put the Dodgers at the top of the class in terms of MLB TV rights.
The proposed deal the Dodgers and Fox are discussing would be worth $240 million per season. In 2013, the Yankees will make $85 million for their rights, nearly a third of the Dodgers deal
So, yeah. It's not surprising they are willing to spend when they have all that money coming in just on that.

Right now after 5 years of neglect by Drayton Maclane.. Give front office some time to rebuild from the ground up. The Astro's have a very large market to support the team.. They will be a factor at some point in near future..

Oddly enough, the saddest part about all this is that the Astros actually have to pay Phil Humber.

    I'm not sure the point.
the Astros suck, while the Dodgers have a team looking like a strong contending team.
even as it stands this is not going to remain this way. you have to know the Astros are going to have to pay more than just 1 player in 2013.
