    Andruw jones going to Japan

TOKYO -- The Rakuten Eagles of Japan's Pacific League say they are set to sign veteran major league outfielder Andruw Jones.

The 35-year-old Jones became a free agent after playing for the New York Yankees the last two seasons, and the Eagles said he is expected to complete a deal after undergoing a physical.

Jones played in 94 games last season for New York, batting .197 with 14 home runs.

Jones is a five-time All-Star and has 10 Gold Gloves. He hit 434 career home runs over 17 seasons in the major leagues and could provide a boost for the Eagles, whose 52 homers were the fewest in Japan last season.

Sounds to me the guy loves baseball so much that he is doing anything he can to continue playing it. Perhaps he is also hoping someone here in the MLB will pick him up midseason.

I always thought playing a pro sport overseas would be amazing. Cant blame him for ending his career that way. He'll be "the man" on his team and live in Japan for a season, better than rotting on some mlb team's bench making half the money and living in some small-market US city bored out of his mind.

hall of famer until he turned 30....then mediocre joke

Sadly, he probably won't be a hall of famer, and he was well on his way before hitting a brick wall.

One of my favorite players when he was in Atlanta, then he had go and do what he did for the Dodgers.

    Lesson - stay in shape!

Coming soon to a TKRO stadium near you
