These teams are all full of **** about who they interview and offer jobs. They don't want to come out and say that hey everybody we got our 8th option to sign up for the job. Kentucky interviewed more than 3 people.... They also supposedly interviewed Gary Andersen.
Just like Derek Dooley was supposedly one of the top 3 options for Tennessee which we all know is bull****. Not a chance in hell a guy with a 17-20 record in the WAC was their 3rd option. Its come out since that they interviewed at least 8 other guys before Dooley.
I also heard that Butch Jones and Mark Stoops both got offered the job twice and that Mark Stoops accepted it the second time around after they upped their offer.
Butch Jones was asked in his press conference about not being the first choice for Tennessee. He replied back with a clever comment about not being his wives first option and then saying that it didn't bother him because Tennessee was the 4th team he interviewed with for a head coaching job. The only other schools that he was rumored to have talks with were Colorado, Purdue and Kentucky.... And Tennessee would make number 4.
Just like Tennessee said all along that nothing was happening with Jon Gruden when they were talking the whole time as he even came to Knoxville and looked real estate and also at schools for his children. And they were still being coy about Butch Jones saying that they hadn't offered him the job when he had already called a meeting to tell his players he was taking the job.
Marcus Mariota
I'm not sure how to feel. He doesn't seem to be a HR hire but he has won four conference championships in six seasons. That is impressive no matter the conference.
