"Halladay has a $20 million vesting option in his current contract for 2014 that automatically activates if three requirements are fulfilled:
- He throws at least 225 innings in 2013.
- He isn’t on the disabled list at the end of 2013.
- He throws at least 415 innings total in 2012 and 2013."
I don't think he's likely to qualify for it based on the third criteria due to some missed games in 2012.
I would love him at 3 for 80 and would even be ok with a 4th year player option with a 10 mill buy out...I stated this a couple of weeks ago in a phillies thread.....5 years or beyond and I vomit.

With Upton out of the picture.. i expect Hamilton to go back to TExas
To win the division I think we need a healthy Halladay to return to being at least very good....That is why I want Hamilton so we do not have to put all our eggs in the halladay basket

You'd expect so, but you have to figure Hammy has more leverage on the team now than he did before. Striking out on Greinke and Shields, losing Napoli, and seeing J. Upton being pulled off the market, the Rangers have to feel extra pressure to make a big (re)signing. Whereas before they were maybe willing to go 3 years max with Hammy, maybe they go all the way up to 5.
To be honest I don't think the Rangers wanted Josh Hamilton. It seems like he's last on the list as of right now.
Well they couldn't afford to both sign Greinke and re-sign Hammy. It was either:
1. sign Greinke and trade for an OF'er to replace Hammy like Upton or;
2. re-sign Hammy and trade for a TORP like Shields
Think they preferred doing #1 over #2. Now that Greinke, Upton and Shields are all unavailable, think Hammy becomes their first priority. He has more leverage on the team now than before though since those other 3 guys are no longer options.
The Blue Jays have had Roy Halladay, Carlos Delgado, Roger Clemens and now Joey Bautista, all Superstar - Hall of Fame type caliber players on their team.
Because of the constant losing or just mediocre seasons, the Jays could never really draw a big crowd.
Winning is all that counts and Josh Hamilton doesn't provide enough for the Mariners to truly contend.
That's really premature on Bautista. He has just over 180 home runs, and he's already 32.
Stark tweeted last night that Hamilton is expected to sign with the Phils in the coming days. First reported the deal was 4/115 and then 3/80.
