Sources: Rex likely will stay, Tannenbaum could be reassigned

Changes are likely coming to the Jets if (when) another season ends without a playoff berth. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News shed some light during Thursday’s PFT Live on what could happen.

Mehta firmly believes that coach Rex Ryan will be back for a fifth season. So what about G.M. Mike Tannenbaum, who presumably is ultimately responsible for an actual or perceived lack of talent?

Mehta believes that Tannenbaum, who like Ryan is under contract for two more years, will be reassigned. Which is a kind way of saying demoted.

It wouldn’t be unprecedented. When Tannenbaum became the General Manager, the team’s former G.M., Terry Bradway, was reassigned. Which was a kind way of saying demoted.

If Mehta’s presumably educated hunch is accurate, it means that the team would need a new G.M., possibly someone with a background in scouting.

It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out. And it was interesting to hear for the first time the possibility that both Ryan and Tannenbaum will stay, but that Tannebaum’s job duties will change.

I'm assuming if this happened, Tanny would be demoted to cap specialist. I'd be fine with that.

Why do we want Tannenbaum as "Cap Specialist?" Arent the Jets in cap hell going into next season.

WTF?!??! This team has no intention of winning if we have Rex Ryan back as our head coach.

They're only in cap hell if they bring back Scott, Smith, and others who are going to be cut.

No way Norv would wanna work with Rex especially after their spat last year.

Now Hue Jackson would be much more realistic. He's a very good OC, plus him & Rex are friends and used to work together in Baltimore.

    Isn't he busy playing Wolverine?

If we have Tanny as a capologist then the best idea is to get a new GM with a scouting background and one who has had successful drafts on his resume. Rex should also be either fired or demoted to DC.

    Oh you didn't know?

    He's got 2 different identities.

    Super Hero in the Spring/Summer

    OC in the Fall/Winter

How else do you think he got that scar on his face?

That is a terrible terrible terrible idea.

This will never happen and quite frankly I wouldn't want this to happen.

Probably the direction that makes the most sense and is most predictable.

Well, then he should get fired.

Fine, I'd be ok with that. But I seen say many fans say he should be demoted to DC and I just cringe.

Keeping him on as DC would undermine the new HC and would basically split the locker room in half.

If the Jets decide that they don't went Rex as their HC anymore, he should be removed from the organization immediately.

Rex is legitimately the only reason the Jets were competitive this year against NE, Houston, and PIttsburgh (in the first half). This roster is terrible and he's kept the team somewhat competitive.
