Just read the Dodgers might be shopping Andre Ethier.
opinions...?
How should I know?
They clearly are capable of fielding a high-payroll team though. Which was the main point of my post.
You need to do homework before making random statements (like saying that the Jays can't afford a big payroll team when the numbers suggest otherwise). Also, they have been middle of the pack in terms of total payroll since 2007 with an average payroll of around 82M.
Its very possible that they have just been biding their team. They are a bit of a sleeping giant in baseball. Richest owners + smart GM + good farm system. The players have to perform and the coaches have to coach but they can field a very good team going forward.

i wouldn't touch that contract 5yrs85m starting his yr, If their not going to pay Swisher 4yrs 50m or whatever his best offer is right now theirs no way their taking on that contract
Ethier and Swisher's number are very close. The only difference is Swisher hits lefties better. I wouldn't hate the idea of him here and I do think his bat would be better at Yankee Stadium. At the same time, how much are the Dodgers willing to eat, and what do we give up? I was thinking maybe a package of Grandy and Nunez centered around Ethier and Gordon (obviously not just them, maybe a few prospects relocating as well).
But with the Dodgers reportedly going after Swisher, especially if Ethier's contract is moved, would they even want Grandy? He does seem to be the most likely to get traded.
Chances right now are there is no fit, just speculating. Can't see the Yankees standing pat from here on out, I see a trade sooner or later, for whoever it may be.
FC Bayern Munchen
New York Yankees
I'd rather have Grandy than Ethier..
