No doubt IMO.
I think his "happy to sign" range by year is something like:
3/75
4/92
5/105
6/120
That crap that was being talked - 7/165 I believe it was? NFW
Last 5 years his FG$ WAR is:
$18.6
$06.2
$33.6
$18.3
$19.6
Only one year over $20M. He has been declining a bit, and other issues...
He looks like a "good" buy at 3/54 ($18M per), anything more is a reflection of a crappy market and a team trying to please fans, but not being baseball smart.

Every team that plays 162 games (or thereabouts) contends. The more elder fans here are talking about a team that can actually win playoff series on top of playoff series.
The last 7 times we've been to the playoffs dating back to 1999, we have been the wild card 5 times. Now the wild card makes it much more difficult for a WC team to win. So, what are the chances we win this Division and go on from there all the way to the WS and win it? I dunno, Ask Vegas? - 22 to 1. But that really means with Vegas math it's in the 30-1 range - or about 3.5%.
You know what they say in Vegas about people who bet long shots?
Suckers.
Edit Add:
Others have:
28/1 (2)
18/1 (1)

I believe we have a shot at the playoffs even without Hamilton, but you're right Soxfan we should be planning on putting a competitive squad out there, whether we make the playoffs via WC and lose the play-in game, or whether we make a serious push through the ALCS, we need to get consistency and durability out of our rotation.

There are a lot of ways Hamilton can help us but he will relapse, we just don't know when. If he does on our clock, (does Vegas have odds for that?), what happens to the clubhouse then? All I hear is changing the culture of the team and getting clubhouse guys. We have enough bad mojo to shake going into this season without intentionally hiring a f up, who would just happen to be the highest paid member of the team.
That said I think he would be fun to watch, but I have a pretty sadistic sense of humor.
Or he could stay clean and sober and create a great clubhouse aura, give us something to root for other than a baseball game. If he relapsed, no chance it almost gets swept under the rug like the "couple of beers" he had in a dive bar in Texas (iirc?), pretty tough to do that in Boston I bet, when you're a baseball player the likes of him. I'd take that risk, I know it's not my money but if it was reasonable, if the price is right, and I think Bags got it nailed to the tree at 3 yr/$54MM. If we could do 3 years, I think it's a good/descent upside deal rather than a high-rist/mediocre reward type deal.
