They have been cutting back on certain areas of the team before the CBA was even announced. Why do you think outside of Mo and Sori no one in the pen made big money?? Why do you think Cashman started his build from within philosophy back in 05/06?
Friend: I think the NBA payed off the Heat in the first yr because of the politics. They threw game four and they payed Lebron because they were angry with what he did. So he had pay one way or another.

F:There is no one in the draft coming out and trading players isn't going to happen. The Lakers are in trouble.

F: Vogel doesn't run that team. Shaw does. If he leaves they are going to suck and Vogel will get fired.

Not that it matters much but 189M isn't the highest payroll anymore. Dodgers will be well over 200M.

the team ahrdly ever shows up in the playoffs though. this isn't the first time they didnt hit and its not the first tiem they were embarassed. part of the problem is over priced free agents and not building continutiy with the team through bringing up you own players. thats why the late 1990s teams were so good, a sound nucleus from with in

Them not spending is an issue as well though because it's the one advantage they have. Every team has one. The Rays can't flex their muscle financially so they have to be good at developing. If the Yankees limit the one advantage they have...then they have no advantage.

you gusy do realize we have been the highest payroll tema for like 10 years right? and in that time we've won 1 world series, menaing 9 times a team won spending less than us. its not all about money guys, spending doesnt win you titles usually. 2009 was the exception, while most seem to think its the rule

what advantage? how has that stragety faired for us as we have used it? we have 1 world series in the last 12 years, using that stargey of buy buy buy. thats not how you win anymore

To be fair......we've almost-developed, acquired, drafted a bunch of studs who've turned out to be crap or get hurt. The list is endless.

    That's not Hals fault.

It's also not Hals fault that he fields a good enough team to win the division the last 10-11 years or whatever and fail in the playoffs.

If I were him, I'd be irritated that I have to waste tens of millions to put band aids on it.

But then again, it's also part of the business of attracting fans to a stellar product. You've got to pay to play!

So, in summary, we've had a good run......we can live with a stop gap year.
