Angels deal with Joe Blanton is 2 years, plus an option for 3. Guaranteed $15M. Pending physical.
    This just keeps getting better

Angels Close to Signing Joe Blanton

I don't see the benefit in signing Blanton over Marcum or Jackson other than he costs less.

My God. If I could punch Dipoto in the face right now, I would. What is he thinking!

Cost less? Barely. 7.5 million per year. I bet Jackson and Marcum will not be too far away from that number and they're way better pitchers than he is.

So, #Angels payroll, without Zack Greinke and Torii Hunter, will still be about $142 million this season. Discuss among yourselves, fans.

So this has to mean we're shopping Richards or something. Alden Gonzalez said that sources said the Angels are still in on Sanchez/Jackson/Greinke. Or maybe I'm just trying to convince myself we're going into the season with a rotation of Weaver/Wilson/Hanson/Blanton/Richards.

Although it seems very unlikely the #Angels could afford Greinke now, they'd still have room for a Marcum type, probably.
    15M to Blanton wow

If Dipoto's just going to toss Moreno's money around, he might as well make it ****ing worth it! Go ahead, sign Greinke and Hamilton to record breaking deals now. I don't give a **** anymore!

although that salary number is interesting, its not really relevant since zach's cost last yr compared to the cost of keeping him are two different things.

    Blanton, 31, posted a 4.71 ERA, 7.8 K/9, 1.6 BB/9, 1.37 HR/9, and 44.6% groundball rate in 191 innings
    First off,

Second, if his ground ball rate is that high and he still allowed 29 HR's, does that mean every non-ground ball was a home run?

We got 17M to spend if we want to go back to our 159M payroll. So a Grienke or Hamilton would put us at 162-167M payroll. Not to bad. A Hamilton and Shields would put us at 172-177M. Not sure if Arte wants to go that high. Maybe a Shields and Swisher? I wouldn't mind swisher for a 4yr 50M. Or Bourn for 5yr 80M. This only works if we trade Bourjos for Shields.
    MIKE TROUT FOR MVP!!!!!
