    Bret Jackson overhauls swing

Cubs manager Dale Sveum said Tuesday that Brett Jackson has completely overhauled his swing.
Jackson recently spent time with Sveum and and the Cubs hitting coaches in Mesa and has apparently made "huge strides." "I think he's got a good base to work with going into the rest of the winter and going into Spring Training to understand the art of hitting, so to speak," said Sveum. "Sometimes it gets lost and taught the wrong way." Jackson, 24, batted just .175/.303/.342 with 59 strikeouts over 142 plate appearances during his first taste of the big leagues this past season and is expected to begin 2013 in the minors.

We'll see. Svuem does have a strong foundation of hitting knowledge. It happens for guys where a few changes here and there result in better productivity; take Bautista for example. It's been two months into the offseason for the Cubs, it's easier to adjust hitting mechanics during practice, some revert back to the norm in game situations.

Hopefully it works like it did with Rizzo.

If he could cut the strikeouts down to 25% and the new swing helps his contact, we might just have a CF!

I like this. He's got so much talent overall, that if he can work out some of the kinks in his swing, it would be huge for us!

If he can be the Darwin Barney of the OF - a couple years of 2 WAR for cheap - I'm fine with it.

    OTOH, meh.

Agreed it's pretty meh. But I'm pretty much down for anything with him. Nothing is bad at this point.

Prospect producing at ML level > prospect flaming out and never being worth anything

He puts up one 2-2.5 win season and he immediately has value to someone in this league, and thus, to us.

People tend not to mess with problems until they really hinder performance.

What is properly? Hitting is relative to the player. Gary Sheffield is definitely not going to be deemed as proper...Craig Counsel...etc. Brett can hit and he has a foundation, it is just changing a few minor things that contribute to the big picture. It can be done. But until he is put into a game situation, there should be skepticism.

If it was only working out the kinks I'd be more optomistic over a complete overhaul.
