Giants are at their payroll limit

No more room for any costly free agents for #SFGiants in their $140M-ish payroll, up from low 130s.

#SFGiants have 10 players signed nearing $100M: Lincecum, Cain, Zito, Bumgarner, Vogelsong, Pagan, Sandoval, Scutaro Affeldt, Lopez.

Add Pence, and it tops $110M. Then add arb-eligible guys Posey, Romo, Casilla, Blanco Arias, Mijares, Hensley. #SFGiants

Even with Huff, F Sanchez, Wilson and Rowand off books, #SFGiants mostly maxed out on payroll.

What to look forward to: platoon LF, non roster invitees, rp.. like Hensley.

Wow, we might have an almost identical 25-man roster.

I still don't think the offseason is done. Sabean may get lucky with a cheap signing and some minors deals or even a trade. While its disappointing to miss Out on players like Swisher, I'm glad we didn't end up with Victorino and Orlando Hudson (or someone similar).

    Giants are out of money

But I really think he is a giant considering he WANTS to play here, and he is the nearest to perfect player for the Giants available (not just this offseason, including over the past couple seasons, ha)

Here's a list of possible platoon partners for Blanco (w/ numbers vs LHP):

    Matt Diaz - .269/.329/.410

    Scott Hairston - .286/.317/.550

    Reed Johnson - .311/.354/.444

    Juan Rivera - .260/.312/.433

    Ryan Raburn - .256/.297/.477

    Ben Francisco - .213/.265/.362

    Ryan Spilborghs - .267/.279/.323

    Cody Ross/Ryan Ludwick too expensive.

I'd like to believe you, but we've heard them say this before and if I'm correct, it turned out to be the truth.

All of those guys seem realistic. Rivera, Johnson and Hairston seem like Sabean-type players.

No longer holding out any hope for Swisher. Surrendering a first round pick is probably part of the reason they didn't pursue him harder.

I think I'd take Raburn, Hairston, or Johnson.

Raburn had very impressive numbers from 2009-2011 as the starter vs lefties.

    2011- .274/.321/.486

    2010- .295/.363/.566

    2009- .278/.382/.594

But those numbers also show a pattern of declining OBP/SLG so that makes me wary of getting him. So I think I'd narrow it down to Hairston or Johnson.

After looking at it a bit, I think Reed Johnson would be my #1 choice from that list. Raburn is interesting, he's had a few good seasons, but he was down last year.

I like Reed too. I wanted us to acquire him last trade deadline.

Standing pat worked great in 2011, really looking forward to next season now.

Different situation. We don't have to rely on Uribe, Renteria, Burrell, and Huff having career years. Also Posey was injured in 2011.
