Will Longoria Finish His Career As A Ray?

Even though Longoria is locked for the next 10 years, I don't think he's going to last that long. The Rays will keep on rebuilding since they have one of the lowest payrolls in the league. I think he will will be traded in 3-4 years.

I see him staying in a Rays uniform, he's the face of that franchise and that's why they ponied up the cash to keep him there.

that's pretty much a given...no way could the Rays be able to sign Price as cheaply as they signed Longoria; who signed for below market value...Signing Longoria was akin to the Mets signing Wright...if you go into the Rays shop at Tropicana Field, 90%+ of the merchandise has Longoria on it...

Isn't the deal heavily front loaded? If so, yes, I could see them trading him down the road.

No point in locking him up if you are going to trade him. He is the face of that franchise. He belongs there and only there.

If the deal was heavily front loaded I would have to believe they would be more inclined to keep him when he is cheaper....

Has the extension actually been finalized? I really don't see why the MLBPA would approve that contract. He's a guarantee to get 18+ million per season in his arbitration seasons if the Ryan Howard arbitration ruling is any indications. They locked in one of the elite players in all of baseball long-term buying out FA years for pennies on the dollar.

No he won't end his career as a Ray. The franchise will move and change their team name.
