    More on the signing:

The Giants fell in love with Scutaro’s attitude and clubhouse presence as much as his unbelievable run as the No.2 hitter.

They appreciate him even more now. From what I’ve been told, Scutaro’s agents came to the Giants early in the offseason and told them that a three-year, $20 million contract would get it done.

The Giants preferred a two-year structure. Meanwhile, Scutaro’s agents fielded other offers and the money went up and up. He had a two-year offer for close to $18 million from the Cardinals, who went as far as to arrange Matt Holliday to give Scutaro a call in case there were any lingering hard feelings from his takeout slide in the NLCS. I’m not sure that call was ever made, though, as the Giants sweetened their offer to three years and $20 million.

That’s a far lower average annual value, obviously, and there was some doubt whether Scutaro would accept it. But just as Scutaro’s agents promised, three and twenty got it done.

Scutaro was good to his word.

A good one actually wants to but we'll look the other way and roll with Matt Diaz instead

Im perfectly fine with our offseason. We resigned the people we needed to resign, we didn't give any stupid long-term deals in a weak FA class and we'll have a healthy Panda+ a possible Timmy and Pence resurgence next year. This is a 95 win team that might flirt with 100 wins next year depending on the level that Pence and Timmy play at next season

It has been a good off-season. 3 years for Scutaro seems about right, as I think he will keep himself in good shape, especially if he is citing Vizquel as an example of longevity. As to LF, on another site I agreed with the comment to offer Swisher a backloaded contract, which would get larger when some heavy salaries come off the roster. Again, another decent player who offers versatility and WANTS to play for the Giants. He would give some additional pop to the lineup, and a potential core of Panda, Posey, Pense, and Swisher all capable of 20+ HRs would be nice. Swisher also has a history of a good OBP, even though he strikes out a bit too often. Then Blanco could be a terrific 4th OF. This would be a great way to start the 2013 pursuit of the third WS Championship in four years

That's cool if true, when's the last time you heard a player wanting to join our team, even after 2010?
