    Does Anyone Know (YAC)

    When you look at the play by play on a box score...and it says "Pass Short Left" or "Short Right"...

    What is the yard threshold for calling a pass short, deep, etc??

    Also...Can anyone find a stat resource that has a box score that shows yards after catch by each receiver in a given game??

    Thanks!

    I can try my best
    On third down and inch to 3 yards in considered 3rd and short
    4-7 third and medium
    8+ third and long
    However when referring to a box score most people consider
    0-8 short
    9-19 medium
    20+ long
    Hope that helps

    I don't know if these are official, but I'd go with these guidelines

    I wish they would list that. They have it w yearly totals need stats. I also wish they listed yards after contact too.

    This is just what I've noticed from NFL.com's live feed, but their site seems to judge it more like:

    short = 0-4 yards
    medium = 5-15
    long = 15+

    Now this could be the fact that they update it play-by-play, and maybe they go back and change it after the game, but I'll always notice something stupid like the numbers. It's really hard to go by the descriptions and figure out how the play was. I remember one play was "Cam Newton passes deep left to Steve Smith for -big number- yards." So naturally I assumed it was a 25+ pass, then he got the rest by running, but when I watched the play it was a 15ish yard out-route that he caught and then burned the defender.
