I'd rather try to get a SS for Ellbury + Specs than a SP.

Only problem I see with hanging onto Ellsbury and hopefully trading him at the deadline, is will LL and upper management allow it? The hope is that he is playing well and increases his value, but what will that look like to the "fans" if they ship off a productive player at the deadline and we have to deal with all the buyer/seller, contender/pretender crap at the deadline. I just cant see LL giving that move the OK.
It'll look fine if we deal him at the deadline if we are not in it (for specs). If we are in it, but need a RP and some kid, then we do that.
But even pink hates know Ells is going to FA, so we could always sign him back (and then claim his price is insane - oh sorry).
Should of traded ellsbury right after the 2011 season. We could of got the world for him...
Yeah..I think Ben was on a tight, if not non-existant, leash last off-season. Lucchino probably thought the rot wasnt as deep as it was and wanted to keep his one MVP type player from the year before. I understand why we didn't move him. If we were Oakland or Arizona there is no way he would have been here last season.

Bit of a surprise move here IMO. 13 million for 3 years is way to much for this guy.
Favourite Teams:
Boston Red Sox: 27-17
Indianapolis Colts: Decent draft, no new wide reciever though.
Detroit Pistons: Looking forward to the draft and whoever the new coach will be
Ottawa Senators: Down 2 to 1 to Pittsburgh, Game 4 on Wednesday Night, Game 5 on Friday Night and Game 6 on Sunday Night (If necessary)
Beautiful:
I've made peace with this signing, hoping for the best. New sig!![]()
Honestly everyone hating on this signing isn't thinking about it in the right way. Worst case scenerio, he flops.. so what? We have the money now... Best Case scenerio the guy repeats 2011 and becomes vital to the Red Sox team and we get a steal on him.
lol, small kid got tripped by a tuba player
I'm perfectly with the player and the signing, I just think 3 years was a year too much.
After looking at it I like the victorino signing. 1 thing I really like is he played in Philly and did well there. I think he'll be fine.
Clay Buchholz: 6-0, ERA 1.01 / Jon Lester: 4-0 , 3.11
Farrell has talked about playing an aggressive style of game this year (including base stealing), but then I realized we have no speed besides Ells and Ciriaco.
Then we get the Flyin' Hawaiian, who swiped 39 bags last year. Ells might be on his way out now, though.
