They have a ton of money to work with after the dodger trade, it doesn't mean you spend it on players that aren't worth the contract. napoli isn't so bad, but this contract is god awful. a 32 year old outfielder who is declining in every aspect of his game, and your stuck with him now for three years. If the red sox truly want to win this year, they bite the bullet and sign hamilton for four years, all it would cost is one more year and about 10 million more dollars a year, which they could have easily afforded. I hate what they are doing- they shouldve just seen what they had in kalish, lavarnway, iglesias and their other prospects. this went from a terrible team to a mediocre team, they are still not a winning team. I could be wrong, im not a GM clearly, but this approach is utterly confusing to me.
The team has no chance to win in '13, even with Hamilton and Sanchez here, why spend money when it won't do enough good?

They are trying to get a team that will win 84 games and be in until at least mid August. That's it.

6/27/09: “We expect [Rondo] to play by the rules and be a leader as a point guard. We need him to be more of a leader,” Ainge said. “There were just a couple situations where he was late this year, I don’t know if he was sitting in his car, but showed up late and the rest of the team was there. We have team rules and you have to be on time. He was fined for being late, he said he was stuck in traffic, and it’s just unacceptable.”

I don't know if someone already answered this but does this move mean we're not going after Josh Hamilton?

Red Sox liked Haren, but it was simply a matter of money. Weren't going to $13m after a season in which his velocity dipped
WTF?! That makes no sense offering victarino that contract.

Would rather have Cody Ross. What's the odds we bring him back now?

Sources: #Indians’ offer to Victorino was 4 yrs, $44 million. Evidence of their flexibility. Victorino got $2M per yr more from #RedSox.

From the Indians? wtf? I'm surprised he didn't take that. I thought the Reds would be more interested. If they don't sign Bourne they could be a good destination for Ellsbury.

The only chance is if Ellsbury gets traded.
