Sources: #Indians’ offer to Victorino was 4 yrs, $44 million. Evidence of their flexibility. Victorino got $2M per yr more from #RedSox.

Surprised he didn't go to the Indians

you don't think he was juicing in 11?

Pagan hit just as well, if not better than Victorino last year. You'd think they'd get closer deals.

    It's an over-payment.

I think you're a Yankee fan, which is hilarious. At least the Sox have a bright future with young players coming. What do the Yankees have to look forward to? The most laughable left side of an infield? Good luck with that 5 years of A-Rod.

    Julio Lugo (4/36)
    Dice-K (6/52, + 50M posting fee)
    Lowell (3/37)
    Cameron (2/15.5)
    Lackey (82.5/5)
    Beckett (4/68)
    CC (7/142)
    Jenks (2/12)
    Buchholz (4/29)
    Adrian Gonzalez (7/154)

The only good FA deals they made are arguably Drew, Scutaro was solid, and Adrian Beltre. The Youk/Pedroia/Lester extensions were good.

Bottom line is the Red Sox have been fairly poor when it comes to spending their $$ in FA. They should have loaded up on elite talents as opposed to wasting their cash on Napoli and Victorino and Gomes.
Lowell was a fine re-sign to add to that..

And anyways, I think people need to understand that we're trying to stay competitive by fielding a team of good veterans. They're loading the team with short term guys. A signing like Victorino or Napoli might not make us the favorite in the East, but were competitive and it's flexible because we're not tied to any of these players for 4, 5, 6 or more years like we were with Gonzalez and Crawfors - and like the Yankees are with A-rod.

This team is buying time so we can integrate the kids - Bradley, Xander, Brentz, and the pitching. I'm fine with that.

    Ortiz for 12M
    Napoli for 13M
    Victorino for 13M

Paying 3 guys over the age of 30 a total of 38M annually for 3 years is horrible. One is 37 and coming of major injury. The other 2 are coming of mediocre to down years.

there's no one worth big money thats a good fit for boston right now. hamilton and grienke both have major issues that would likely hurt their performance in boston
FA isn't always the way to go, you don't have to sign for need you can always trade for need.

Finances aside which they can always dump like you guys did by paying the other team some salary.
Their rotation has Hughes, Pineda, Nova still going forward. Not to mention their farm isn't crap either. Nothing is hilarious about them because they'll still find a way to be in contention no matter what.

How dare we pay the best DH in all of baseball that type of money on a 2 year deal, silly Red Sox.
