Don't really get what the Red Sox are doing. Stop gaps until their top prospects come up? This team was awful last year, and adding Gomes, Napoli, Ross and Victorino will make them better, but not good enough to contend in my opinion. I honestly thought they'd try to either get cheap young talent, or swing for the fences and get Hamilton, or another big name.

We are not trying to contend, we are just trying to field a competitive team until the farm starts churning out some quality players. We can afford to overspend on short-term contracts.

If he's the same player the Dodgers had, this will be the worst overpay of the off-season. I honestly thought he would get 1/8.

    Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal
Sources: #Indians’ offer to Victorino was 4 yrs, $44 million. Evidence of their flexibility. Victorino got $2M per yr more from #RedSox.

Solid move by the Red Sox. Victorino has been getting mighty underrated lately.

Not in 2011 he wasn't. Hit better than Shane/BJ/Angel.

But I guess we'll see what the 33 year old [Shane] can do.

I don't think this contract is that bad. this is what free agents are getting. but I have to wonder why the Sox are going this route. if the Sox have some good prospects in the minors that are not yet ready, then sure they need fill ins until then. but these players they have signed are not making them contenders. so why bother? isn't this just wasting money? why not go into full rebuild? now might be when the Sox should be looking into a signing or signings more comparable to when they signed Cody Ross last year. little research looks like that was for 1 year at $3 million. maybe they should be looking for low risk high reward type moves instead.
