how many established free agents are going to sign what people will call good contracts? not that many. this happens all the time, get used to it.
he is only 1 year removed from .279/.355/.491/.847
the anti-Trump movement seems to be getting dumber
Wowzers.
We've added a total $34.1M in payroll for 2013 between our 4 FA signings (Victorino, Napoli, Gomes and Ross). Why load up and pay a premium for elite talent when the FO has said they'll spend to stay competitive but only on short-term contracts? It's clear, that there has been a philosophy shift when it comes to spending via free agency.
Money has never been an issue, which is why you are seeing that Boston is overpaying on short-term contracts, because it can afford to do so instead of over-extending themselves in terms of years.
Then don't spend the money. Pretty simple stuff.
And yeah, CC was an elite talent but he wasn't a good fit for the Sox. His value was in speed and D, and in Fenway the Monster prevents him from taking advantage of his speed. Given the lesser OBP numbers he wasn't a good leadoff option, and the lack of power numbers meant he wasn't a middle of the order guy either.
Wasn't a good fit at all.
If they just gave him 3 years, why not up the money and top the Rangers on a 4 year deal for Hamilton? They have money, whats an extra year on for a game changing player? If the 4 years is true in what Hamilton is going to get, thats a deal.
Sox are setting up another huge trade with the Dodgers
I'm really not understanding Bostons off season at all, dating back to august. Trade a superstar 1b in agon, a quality LF in crawford, and quality SP in Beckett... then go this off season and overpay on gomes and victorino and sign napoli.. has me confused but oh well, have fun boston.
