nice pick up for the Nats, we really didn't need him especially with so many needs else where and the lack of funds

Need the money to go after a RF and C. Already signed Kuroda and Petitte. Rotation have CC, Kuroda, Petitte, Hughes, Nova, Phelps.

For 1 year deals this year we absolutely do NOT have a lack of funds, heck if Hamilton would sign a 1 year $45 mm deal, I bet the Yankees would do it.

They have basically unlimited funds for 1 year signings... they blew this 1... 13mm they should of got him... its a 1 year deal, and doesn't affect their $189 cap they need to be at... let 1 of our Main 3 starters go down with an injury they will wish they spent $20mm (for a 1 yr deal) for him.

Have to agree here. A potential of:

    Sabathia
    Kuroda
    Pettitte
    Haren
    Hughes/Pineda/Phelps/Nova

    Would have been nasty

No. Haren has health issues. $13M is kind of a lot when we have other glaring holes. Why limit the 5th spot to potentially 4 MLB ready starters? We also need to evaluate what we have going for us pitching wise for the long run. Signing 1 year stop gaps for the starting rotation (additional ones) makes no sense.

no goof ball - he would be much needed pitching when Hughes & Nova fail again.

I don't know man this is an awfully tempting stop gap. Who knows what the future would hold should he thrive in ny. I would've been on this and been aggressively shopping Nova.

And so, a new era begins.....

    If Haren is Healthy

Yanks totally blew it. We need highend pitching, not a bunch of question marks which is exactly what Hughes, Nova, Phelps, and even Pettite might be. One yr, 13mill...wow This is exactly what Yanks needed. Why are you guys screaming about right field? Theres about 10 of em available. Good pitching on the other hand....not so easy to come by.

No point in making a thread about a player who has signed elsewhere. Talk about it in the offseason thread. Closed.
