I was hoping the Dodgers would pick him up. I have a feeling the Nats are going to be a contender this year.

Does the fact that they were a contender last year have anything to do with that feeling? Or is it because of Haren?

We don't know anything about the Medicals so how can we say that for sure he's close to the same pitcher he was so its a steal? What we do know is that both the Angels and Cubs didn't see him fit.

I mean, he might bounce back, there's a chance for it and maybe a good one. But the bias (by outside Nats fans) towards what some teams do is funny to me.
How's this different than Tommy Hanson, which everyone hear loved for the Braves?

They were a contender last year, what would make them different this year? They're contenders for years to come, in my opinion.

None... besides the fact that Hanson is 10 mil cheaper which is why it was a great move for the Angels. They basically get a cheaper version of Haren (starting pitcher with good potential/talent with injury concern).

Just like Jackson last year, this is an awesome signing that really shores up an awesome rotation.

Why would you think they wouldn't be a contender?

Good for Washington. This might give them the best rotation in the majors.
    Favourite Teams:

Boston Red Sox: 46-52, games this week vs. Blue Jays (4), Rays (3)
Indianapolis Colts: Good draft and off-season so far.
Looking for new NBA team to cheer for
Ottawa Senators: 37-31-14, season over, free agency begins this week.

Haren has lost velocity yes, but he has become a pitcher. Strong command and control.

His K rate may not return to 8 per 9, but his BB per 9 could stay below 2, and he is pretty capable of keeping the ball in the yard.

It all comes down to his back.

Wow The Nationals just got a whole lot better. Look for them to be challenging SF for the NL.

That's obviously the point. Two teams ruled him out because of his medical history, so saying this is a great signing is foolish. We are not doctors and don't have his medicals, so we have no idea.

    1. Strasburg
    2. Gonzalez
    3. Zimmerman
    4. Haren
    5. Detwiller (?)

It's very strong, I don't know if it's the best. I still like the Rays rotation better

    1. Price
    2. Shields
    3. Moore
    4. Hellickson
    5. Cobb

and as a homer, I still like the Cardinals

    1. Wainwright
    2. Carpenter
    3. Garcia
    4. Miller
    5. Lynn/Rosenthall/Kelly/Westbrook
