    Parnell virtually untouchable

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- During last year's winter meetings, Mets officials seriously contemplated accepting an offer for Bobby Parnell as the Detroit Tigers made a strong push. The Mets passed, though, because Parnell remained under their control for four more seasons and possessed a fastball that could touch 100 mph.

This winter, Parnell appears virtually untouchable, according to a major league source.

That's partly due to Parnell's performance down the stretch, including allowing one earned run in 12 innings in September.

The other factor: The Mets, right now, have no alternative as a primary setup man for Frank Francisco. Nor do they have another arm to step in should Francisco require a trip to the disabled list. Jon Rauch and Ramon Ramirez are free agents and unlikely to return, while Tim Byrdak likely will not be ready until the second half of the season in a best-case scenario.
    There goes that idea.

Hmm could be a smoke screen.

If teams know the Mets think really highly of him they may make a bigger offer.

He's the only reliable arm in the pen, how could we trade him?

I doubt we can, and even if we did that's another gaping hole in a pen that blows.

I don't see any reason why he would be traded for a mid level prospect/role player.

He blows. People are just in love with his power but he's not good.

He looks like a super star when compared to the trash we paid dearly for to relieve last season. I look like a base stealing threat when compared to the elderly!

I never thought I'd see 'Bobby Parnell' and 'untouchable' in the same sentence. Tells you how ****** it's gotten for us.

That guy who "blows" could be our closer in May or June.

Major league hitters everywhere would beg to differ.
"Mr. Martin Tanner, Baritone, of Dayton, Ohio made his Town Hall debut last night. He came well prepared, but unfortunately his presentation was not up to contemporary professional standards. His voice lacks the range of tonal color necessary to make it consistently interesting. Full time consideration of another endeavor might be in order."
