Which top sport has the worst officiating?

Its the NBA by far. I dont mind calling the NBA fixed. The reason I watch it is that there is nothing to compete alongside this time of year (during the weekdays). When the Tim Donaghy situation came out I wasnt shocked. I also laugh how in the PSD NBA forum how its a taboo to blame the refs if the game goes wrong.

That's why I can't go in the NBA forum. Just too many blind fans that refuse to admit there is a problem.

There's definitely a problem. It's just sort of stupid to call it fixed because the fans make 1 out of every 10 predictions right.

NBA, but it isn't "rigged" or it fully isn't "rigged" at least. If that was the case we would've seen a LeBron-Kobe finals by now and the Knicks would have a lot more championships.

With other sports I'm wary of yelling about the fix, but the NBA is painfully obvious.

Stern will do whatever it takes to get as much money as possible and the latest Spurs debacle is just more evidence.

On a similar note, are there any legal repercussions to fixing sports? From the commissioners side that is. I mean it is a private business and they have the right to do what they want. Just like WWE.

well, if a league purports itself to be a competitive sport where the outcomes aren't predetermined (rather than entertainment, like WWE) and there is gambling wagered on its games, there would definitely be a claim for fraud and antitrust if it were proven (key word here) that the league was, in fact, lying and fixing or attempting to fix games.

that said, my comment earlier about stern putting in the fix was more tongue-in-cheek than cold accusation. i DO believe that stern, via the refs and other means, tries to highlight certain teams and players, but i don't think he's pulling an arnold rothstein or anything like that. it's more of a competitive imbalance than a fix, if that makes sense.

I don't think refs think "Oh, wow, look! It's LeBron James. I should blow the whistle".

Stars have the ball in their hands the most. They shoot the most. They especially know how to get to and attack the rim the most. They SHOULD get more calls.

Do bad calls exist? Of course. 50/50 calls happen tons of time a game...but over the span of a game they tend to even out.

It's the hardest game to officiate because it's fast, continuous and the athletes are just so outrageous right now. Because it's the hardest, it's also pretty much considered the worst.

But I don't think it's because of purposeful human choice. It's just human error.
