Lol what a terrible offer. All these Jays fans want to deal JPA because they have D'Arnaud.
OK, but why ignore 05-09, they happened, he was garbage. He could just as easily be that guy next season. Hes a a bunch of bad seasons, two average season and one great season, There is just no way I would want to give up what the Mets are asking for that, not saying someone won't, just wouldn't want to be that team.
His k/9 was 3 points higher in 2012 than any point in his career. I just don't see how we can expect him to repeat that. Take away strikeouts and you will see a rise is bb/9, era, etc. He is an average pitcher who has had one great year.
The guy won a Cy Young last year, was one of the best pitchers in baseball, and is by no means an aberration or some kind of "magician" fooling major league hitters.
The guy can pitch and good knuckleballers tend to have longer lifespans than your good traditional pitchers.
He struck out almost one out of every four batters he faced last year and had a WHIP barely above 1 doing it with a knuckleball
Again you are dealing with a guy that throws a pitch like no one else has EVER thrown it. He's not Tim Wakefield, Charlie Hough, or Steve Sparks, he's a completely different beast all on his own.

I understand the Mets wanting Bogaerts and Bradley is a crazy asking price.
But are the Mets just supposed to accept a 4th OF and an average catcher for him?
I don't know any teams GM that would shake their head and say "oh yeah thats ok", the Mets are doing the right thing here hoping someone bites and they are able to fill their own needs.
If a team wants to win now he can help them win now..
He certainly has the credentials coming off a Cy Young award.

Ad for ignoring 05-09, why wouldn't you? He was working on the pitch and obviously was getting burned by it in the minors and majors. Prior to 2010, it seems like Dickey started mastering the knuckler so he burst on the scene with the Mets. Dickey has been very good in 2010, good in 2011, and tremendous in 2012. Not merely two average years and a great one.
Since Dickey is not a traditional pitcher, his traditional peripherals have to be taken with a grain of salt. Dickey induces weaker contact on the knuckler which leads to his BABIP being consistenly in that .270 range. FIP and xFIP penalize him for that, when in reality, batters were just weakly grounding out against Dickey in 2010 and 2011 even though he wasn't racking up huge K numbers.
The reason Dickey's ERA is so close in 2010 and 2012, is because Dickey did a better job of getting grounders and limiting homers. In 2012, he started trowin the high knuckler which lead to a ton of K's, but more homers.
His control with the pitch has been impeccable in the last 3 years, so even if the K rate dropped, he'd still be a very good pitcher due to the grounders and lack of free-passes.
That's why he was getting more hitters out last year..
He was able to get guys to swing and miss at that specific knuckleball more consistently with mixing in a fastball and a changeup.
His IFFB% was also at 12.7% last year so although his FB% was up batters weren't always making solid contact when hitting it in the air.

man whats up with all the hating on dickey? Guess they havent seen him pitch like we have, dude was unhittable so many times, not only the velocity is crazy, but the location is pinpoint for a knuckleballer he would walk very few for a knuckleball pitcher. And plz dont give me the sorry excuse of him being old.
Dickey is legit.
He was so underrated in 2010 and 2011. Anyone who thinks he was average those years is smoking crack.
He simply figured out how to use the high knuckler to strike more people out, which makes him even better.
Dickey is a legit ace. If you want him then pay up. If not then we will do what we really wanted to do all along...extend him for 3 more years at a bargain price.
I think he has at least another 5 good years in him personally, so signing him to a 3 years deal makes a ton of sense.

yeah I don't mind keeping dickey tbh if teams don't want to pay up and give us a blue chip prospect for a need they need ot fill then its their loss, we need a hitter and the teams that want dickey need a pitcher well its a no brainer pay up....... I think we will end up dealing with the bluejays tbh, I wouldent mind getting gose + for dickey, gose is an excellent defending OF and can swipe a good amount of bags with + speed. I dont really like JP at all, hes like mark reynolds at catchers, hes only good for 1 thing power.
I would take him in a package for Dickey, but by no means as the center piece. It would take Gose and Snydergaard at least as well. Those ****** packages I'm hearing of JPA, Davis, and a prospect is outrageous.
lol yeah junk for gold, gose is a must if dickey moves, he would be awesome leadoff hitter for us if he can up his average little this year which I think he does, tbh I'd rather have him over olt because we need an OF badly, where would we put olt anyway we got wright and ike, and I wouldent move ike, and ike should have a nice year this year imo.
