He's a knuckleballer, not a stereotypical fastball, changeup, slider type guy.

Knuckleballers can be effective well into their 40s, not to mention he throws a much better and harder knuckleball than many of those guys who were effective into that age (aside from Wilhelm and Phil Niekro)

doesn't change the fact that he is still 38 and only under control for 1 year

Well it does because if he was a fastball/changeup/slider type guy you couldn't expect him to have that type of longevity.

And i would have to believe whoever trades for him will look to sign him right away.

He would accept a 2 year deal according to most reports.

    true.

this is what dave cameron over at FG thinks:

So, what does that translate into? If Greinke goes to one of the LA clubs, then maybe you’re asking Texas for Mike Olt and Leonys Martin. If he goes to Texas, then maybe you’re asking the Dodgers for Zach Lee and Joc Pederson. If the Mets are willing to move Dickey, this is the kind of price they should be asking. Even with just one year left on his deal, the expected cost of an extension and the history of knucklers suggest that he’s not just a one year player. And, for multiple years of an impact pitcher, the Mets should be able to land a significant package. Maybe it isn’t on par with what San Diego got for Adrian Gonzalez, but it should be in the ballpark. Dickey’s worth that kind of return.

Yeah the Mets should expect something of significance in return for the reigning Cy Young winner.

Dickey is not a one year wonder, his cumulative FIP over the last 3 years is just above 3.5 and has an ERA under 3 in that time.

Dickey for Bogaerts and Bradley is nuts but i can understand the Mets using that leverage for teams wanting a quality SP to their advantage.

Sounds like the Mets are over-valuing an aging pitcher. Yes he won the Cy Young, and yes knuckleballers can pitch forever, but if I'm a rival GM, I'm not giving up good young talent for a guy like Dickey.

Sounds like people are blowing out of proportion Sandy's response when asked by 7 different teams "what do you want for your Cy Young winner?"
