Sources say #Mets have gotten "serious" about trading R.A. Dickey as soon as this week. #Rangers & #Royals seen as most logical fits.According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Mets have "gotten serious" about trading starter R.A. Dickey.
It appears that negotiations toward a multi-year extension between the Mets and the 38-year-old knuckleballer have fallen apart. Stark calls the Rangers and Royals the "most logical fits," but other teams could join the fray at this week's Winter Meetings. Dickey won the National League Cy Young Award in 2012 after posting a 2.73 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 230/54 K/BB ratio in 233 2/3 innings. The Mets will want prospects in return.Joe McDonald of ESPN Boston reports that the Red Sox met with the Mets to discuss a possible trade for R.A. Dickey.
McDonald hears that the Mets asked for prospects Xander Bogaerts and Jackie Bradley, Jr., so the conversation probably didn't last very long. The thought is that the Mets could wait to see how the market shakes out with Zack Greinke before deciding what to do with Dickey. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Monday that he wants to land a "difference maker" in a possible deal.
can't believe they wanted one of the best prospects in baseball + another very good one in exchange for their 38 year old pitcher.
Where do you think he will end up?
