All you gotta do is look at the Vegas odds.... Johnny Manziel is currently as high as a 4-to-1 favorite on some sites. On prop bets of that nature they won't put those kind of odds unless they have had a good number of voters let them in on their votes to give them some kind of idea.
2 other reasons why Manziel likely has the edge
(1) Notre Dame isn't in a conference. These are mostly writers that vote on the award and most of them likely cover certain conferences. Te'o will get less votes than he would if he were in say the Big 10.
(2) Johnny Manziel will get all the votes in the southeastern part of the country. But in the midwest were Collin Klein would need to get a ton of votes Texas A&M still has a presence and he likely will get votes there as well.

1. T'ao - best player, on the top ranked team in CFB; he is likely the best defensive player in the land as well (different topic for a different day)
2. Manziel - great year, but he is a freshman
3. Klein - the hype is there and he is likely going to win as voters don't like to give it to defensive players or freshmen
1) Manziel
2) Klein
3) Te'o
Some WR's are divas. Then there's new Saints WR Kenny Stills
Yeah. Te'o isn't even the best LB in the country, let alone the best defender...
Also, why does Manziel being a freshman matter. Who cares what class he's in...vote the most deserving player based on what they did on the field.
is there a defender that has meant more to his team? no
irrelevant...the "top 5" team that he beat is still playing for the title...next
I personally don't think it should matter, nor should a defender be on the outside looking in...it just seems form listening to all of the "analysts" out there, that voters won't vote for freshmen...and, as far as the bolded statement, then Manti wins...he has meant more to his team than the other guys under consideration...it A&M were undefeated and playing for the title, then he wins...A&M has 2 losses and wasn't even the best team in their own conference...
