Tuitt may be raw, but his production and skill are truly exceptional. Defensive linemen have more of an impact on each down than a MLB in my opinion as well. I know the MLB makes the defensive calls and creates continuity, but Tuitt is a disruptive force on every single play. Great in rush defense, and obviously one of the more talented pass-rushers in college football. ND took the next step as a defense when they finally got an athlete like Tuitt to come there. I do think Te'o is a great player, but Tuitt deserves a lot more credit than he receives from the national media.

That's sort of how it goes. Especially in a 3-4 scheme where Tuitt is expected to be a run stuffer and not a pure pass rusher. You're not going to make a ton of highlight reels.

The reason I say he's raw is because he over pursues sometimes and has missed some sacks or tackles that he could have made. I always chalk it up to him being young.

    5.5 tackles for loss

    Player B (11 games, 9-2, 1-2 vs. top ten):

    22.5 tackles for loss

Player B also beat a top five team essentially by himself. So who is better?
Well I know player A is Te'o and player B is Jones. I still think Te'o is better. But they also play a different style. Te'o isn't running in there all the time trying to generate sacks like Jones. Te'o will be the most complete player heading into the draft (safe player). Much like Kuechly was last year

2 other reasons why Manziel likely has the edge

    (1) Notre Dame isn't in a conference. These are mostly writers that vote on the award and most of them likely cover certain conferences. Te'o will get less votes than he would if he were in say the Big 10.

    (2) Johnny Manziel will get all the votes in the southeastern part of the country. But in the midwest were Collin Klein would need to get a ton of votes Texas A&M still has a presence and he likely will get votes there as well.
Called it.... Manziel pretty much got all the votes in those two regions. Just another benefit of conference re-alignment.

And yet one got voted 2nd in the Heisman voting and the other wasn't even in the conversation....

I heard that Manziel won every region but the Midwest which was won by Te'o.

Right. Georgia asks Jones to dominate and he usually does. What's your point?

    Based on what?

Jones is an outside linebacker in a 3-4 that usually rushes the passer. Te'o is an inside linebacker in a 3-4 that blitzes occasionally but usually plays the ball carrier and drops in coverage. They play different positions.

That's true but it doesn't change the kind of production Jones managed. At the very least it should have warranted the same trip to New York that Te'o got.

Exactly. He was every bit as dominant and crucial to his team yet he got ZERO mention in the award considerations. If they switch teams then Jones is sitting in New York not Te'o....

Well is Jones playing middle if they switch teams? He might not be as good in that role with ND.
