An ex-Ranger is heading to the AL East, as Mike Napoli and the Red Sox agreed to a three-year contract earlier today. However, there's still plenty of activity going on out west, so let's round up a few items from the AL West....

The Mariners and Rangers sound like the two biggest suitors besides the Nationals for Adam LaRoche, says Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post (Twitter link).
As the Angels eye Sean Burnett, they continue to have interest in other relief options, according to MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez (via Twitter). Mike Adams remains a possibility, and the team also checked in on Joakim Soria, though he wants to close.
The Mariners remain open to signing a defensive catcher, tweets Greg Johns of MLB.com.
The Mariners had "no idea" that the Red Sox were closing in on an agreement with Napoli, GM Jack Zduriencik tells Rob Bradford of WEEI.com.
    haha sneaky sneaky Ben!

You wonder if they offer him 4/40M instead, would he taken that and would you offer it?

I'm also glad we can deal Salty with no guilt whatever. I'd love a 3 way that went:

BRS gives: Ellsbury, Salty, Pimentel, Wilson; gets: Andrus

Tex gets: Ellsbury and Jared Hughes; gives up Andrus

Pitt gives up: Hughes, mid level spec P; gets Salty, Pimentel, Wilson

Jered Hughes is a solid young multi-inning MR, something Texas needs badly

6/27/09: “We expect [Rondo] to play by the rules and be a leader as a point guard. We need him to be more of a leader,” Ainge said. “There were just a couple situations where he was late this year, I don’t know if he was sitting in his car, but showed up late and the rest of the team was there. We have team rules and you have to be on time. He was fined for being late, he said he was stuck in traffic, and it’s just unacceptable.”

I'd rather have him for 3 years and pay extra for it.

98.5 brought this up. Napoli has caught Lackey more than any other catcher but one in his career (Bengie Molina is the only one with more), and did well.

Give Ross 2/5, and Napoli 1/5, that leaves at most 2/5 for the Lavarnway or Salty. That obviously argues for one catcher gone, and another big name coming that can play 1B/OF. Oh oh ---- Swisher.

It's a wash with those terms. The Sox control an extra year either to use him as a DH or trade.

Pittsburgh already has enough back-end rotation starters, and they just signed Russell Martin and have Michael McKenry (who slashed .233/.320/.442 last year), they don't need Salty, Pimental, and Wilson. They would need higher-ranked pitching and middle infield help.
I would be calling the Mets about a possible trade involving Salty.

They have nobody to give us anymore. Ike was the guy, Niese/Dickey too valuable.

They have prospects and have been reported to be shopping Niese. They are in need of C, SS, OF, and RP help, I'd at least kick the tires to see if they'd be interested.
Salty/Marrero/Jacobs/Miller is what I would offer. Would they take it?

IMO that's too much for Niese, but it's fair. Marrero can't be traded though, you have to wait a year from draft day.

Generally, I'd be wary of a 1B-man playing a game a week behind the plate. But if Napoli can do anything to improve the chances of getting good results out of Lackey, then I guess that's a good thing.

Martin played some games at 3B, perhaps he can play some at 1B as well.

McHenry was never seen as a high ceiling guy (which is why he was dealt several times). Last season could well be an outlier.

Wilson has more chance to be a impact MR than a decent SP. The Pirates would have no trouble dealing their meh SP's to make room if needed, and if either Wilson or Pimentel worked out, it would be far more valuable to them then Hughes.

Higher ranked? For a good, but hardly world beating MR? That's delusional.
