Prime Jordan.
With the deepest of regrets I am announcing that I will be leaving Pro Sports Daily. No reason in particular but wanted to thank everyone for a great 6 years here. Lots of great discussion and good poll series as well. Also fun re-drafts. Best of luck to you all in the future.
I think it is easier to compare MJ's vs Shaq's the best though.
1. Because they played pretty much in the same era.
2. They had the same amount of games in the season and playoffs to play.
I believe Jordan wins this because:
1. Had the higher PER in the season, playoffs and finals
2. Had the higher win shares in the season and playoffs
MJ in the season = 20.30 Win Shares. Shaq = 18.65
MJ in the season = 31.63 PER, Shaq = 30.65
MJ in the playoffs = 4.77 Win Share, Shaq = 4.67
MJ in the playoffs = 32.04 PER, Shaq = 30.45
MJ in the finals = 31.5 PER and Shaq = 31.1

So they were pretty much neck and neck, but I'd give MJ the advantage based on the things mentioned.

Excellent post!
I chose Shaq because of the easy scoring that he gets and the reason being that I don't think anyone was more dominant than Shaq in his prime, but what you mentioned here is very compelling and it proves that is not a slam dunk to just say Jordan because he's Jordan and he's the greatest. I mean as far as careers go and winning championships... then it obviously isn't as close.
Shaq was really great in his prime but there were ways to limit his effectiveness at times (deny him the ball, force him to shoot free throws). Jordan did not need anyone to set him up. For that reason it is Jordan in my opinion.
I'm always happy to discuss anything from hoops, to hockey, to reality TV with anyone that is polite regardless of their opinion. With that said if you are disrespectful, dishonest, or an extremist type poster I may not waste my time replying to you.
Jordan was as productive if not more so and as efficient. But also he wasn't a liability on the floor especially not in crunch time. You could hack a Shaq and throw him off his game, you couldnt do that with MJ. Also MJ could get the ball whenever he wanted while Shaq needed to depend on others to get him the ball unless of course you believe he can bring the ball up the floor in a tight situation.

Shaq would **** all over anyone in today's NBA.
There isn't a single player right now that could body him and keep him out of the paint.
You put Shaq a peak Shaq on say G-State they might be the best team in the West.
Jordan because he can shoot FTs with his eyes closed.
Yeah... except that he should have made 1st team All-D and won the DPOY in 00.
He led a cast of mostly weak defenders to the best defense in the league while playing in the Wild West.
Zo led his team to the 7th or 8th best defense while playing with Bruce Bowen in the Weak Sauce East.
All-Defensive awards have really lost their credibility since over the years so many players have have actually deserved them got shafted and many who blatantly did not deserve them were awarded them.
