Truth. It would be nice to have a Co that actually pays attention and actually participates

    Starting Rotation
    SP: Zack Greinke
    2YA: 3.63 ERA, 3.05 FIP, 3.01 SIERA, 1.20 WHIP, 9.4 K/9, 4.1 K/BB, 9.1 WAR
    2012: 3.48 ERA, 3.10 FIP, 3.30 SIERA, 1.20 WHIP, 8.5 K/9, 3.7 K/BB, 5.1 WAR

    SP: Gio Gonzalez
    2YA: 3.00 ERA, 3.23 FIP, 3.64 SIERA, 1.22 WHIP, 9.1 K/9, 2.4 K/BB, 9.0 WAR
    2012: 2.89 ERA, 2.82 FIP, 3.49 SIERA, 1.13 WHIP, 9.4 K/9, 2.7 K/BB, 5.4 WAR

    SP: Matt Harvey
    2012: 2.73 ERA, 3.30 FIP, 3.42 SIERA, 1.15 WHIP, 10.6 K/9, 2.7 K/BB, 1.1 WAR

    SP: Cory Luebke

    2012: 2.61 ERA, 2.80 FIP, 3.98 SIERA, 1.16 WHIP, 6.7 K/9, 2.9 K/BB, 0.7 WAR (injured)

    2012: 1.32 ERA, 1.85 FIP, 2.72 SIERA, 0.95 WHIP, 10.5 K/9, 4.0 K/BB, 0.4 WAR

Greinke and Gio is as good a 1-2 punch as there is in baseball. Matt Harvey dazzled as a rookie and looks like a frontline starter himself. Luebke was well on his way to repeating his excellent 2011 before injury struck, and though he'll miss the first two months of 2013, we're already in the playoffs. Miller goes to the bullpen, or slots in as the 4 if Luebke is ineffective.

Jay has emerged as a consistent all-around CF. Utley, even limited to 100 games, is still one of the best second basemen in the business, and the presence of Maicer Izturis on the bench means Utley will get all the rest he needs to be 100% for the postseason. Sandoval-Hart-Pence is a sneaky good 3-4-5 of hitters who aren't flashy but are consistently good. Gomes murders lefties and can be platooned at DH with Chisenhall, who mashes RHP. Eaton showed plenty of promise as a rookie, and can likewise be protected from southpaws by Heisey. Hundley put up an .825 OPS in 2011, and now his home park is Arlington instead of Petco. If he falters, Norris is one of the best catching prospects in baseball. Cozart showed impressive pop for a shortstop as a rookie, and should improve. Every player on my bench would be at least a league-average player with a full season of playing time.
    Defense
C Nick Hundley 4 DRS | Derek Norris 0 DRS

    1B Corey Hart -8.5 UZR/150, -5 DRS | Pablo Sandoval 4.2 UZR/150, 2 DRS

    2B Chase Utley 13.6 UZR/150, 138 DRS | Maicer Izturis 7.6 UZR/150, 4 DRS

    3B Pablo Sandoval 4.2 UZR/150, 1 DRS | Maicer Izturis 3.6 UZR/150, 4 DRS | Lonnie Chisenhall -7.6 UZR/150, -1 DRS

    SS Zack Cozart 12.7 UZR/150, 16 DRS | Maicer Izturis -1.1 UZR/150, -10 DRS

    LF Adam Eaton 2.1 UZR/150, 2 DRS | Chris Heisey 3.0 UZR/150, -4 DRS

    CF Jon Jay 4.8 UZR/150, 5 DRS | Chris Heisey 3.6 UZR/150, -2 DRS

    RF Hunter Pence 2.9 UZR/150, 20 DRS | Chris Heisey 6.7 UZR/150, 8 DRS | Corey Hart -3.5 UZR/150, 3 DRS

Excellent up the middle, above average pretty much everywhere else, with several players capable of playing multiple positions well.
    Bullpen
    CL Kenley Jansen

    SU Greg Holland

    2012: 2.96 ERA, 2.22 FIP, 2.88 SIERA, 1.37 WHIP, 12.2 K/9, 2.7 K/BB, 2.2 WAR

    Workhorse: Matt Belisle
    3YA: 81 IP, 3.28 ERA, 2.89 FIP, 2.82 SIERA, 1.23 WHIP, 8.0 K/9, 4.5 K/BB, 50.1 GB%, 5.9 WAR
    2012: 82 IP, 3.71 ERA, 2.97 FIP, 3.07 SIERA, 1.36 WHIP, 7.8 K/9, 3.8 K/BB, 50.6 GB%, 2.1 WAR

    Fireballer: Andrew Cashner
    2012: 4.27 ERA, 3.55 FIP, 3.07 SIERA, 1.32 WHIP, 10.1 K/9, 2.7 K/BB, 53.3 GB%, 98.0 vFA

    LH Specialist: Drew Pomeranz
    2012: 2.63 ERA, 2.39 FIP, 0.88 WHIP, 10.2 K/9, 3.8 K/BB, 51.0 GB%, .220 wOBA [vs. LHP]

    RH Swingman: Mike Leake
    2YA: 4.23 ERA, 4.33 FIP, 3.89 SIERA, 1.27 WHIP, 6.1 K/9, 3.0 K/BB, 48.3 GB%, 3.0 WAR (as starter)
    2012: 4.58 ERA, 4.42 FIP, 4.01 SIERA, 1.35 WHIP, 5.8 K/9, 2.8 K/BB, 48.9 GB%, 1.5 WAR

    LH Swingman: Drew Smyly
    2012: 3.99 ERA, 3.83 FIP, 3.75 SIERA, 1.27 WHIP, 8.5 K/9, 2.9 K/BB, 1.7 WAR (as starter)

With Luebke out to start the season and a couple of young arms, it was important to add swingmen who could provide any spot starts or injury fill-ins that might become necessary during the season. Smyly, Leake, Cashner, and Pomeranz are all capable of either starting or pitching multiple innings in relief, in addition to filling specialist roles in the 'pen. Belisle has pitched more innings than any reliever besides Tyler Clippard over the last three years and done so effectively, with much of his work coming in Coors as well. Jansen and Holland are proven bullpen aces and either can close a game with confidence, though Jansen will be given the closer role.

Overall, this roster doesn't have much in the way of weaknesses. The rotation boasts a pair of aces, some exciting young talent, and incredible depth. The bullpen is full of high-strikeout guys and rubber arms. The lineup is well above average, with a deep bench affording impressive flexibility and protection against injury and slumps. Defense? Solid everywhere, and elite up the middle. So that's my team. Thanks for reading if you did, and thanks for voting.

Nah, I don't think that happens. I'm not thrilled about the undrafted player we just signed.
