I think they will try and move him for a spec
Really the only other FA signing I can see them making would be Stephen Drew, which I would really like. I could see him being a 2-3 WAR player here for a year or 2
As of now the team has a shot. I didn't think they would really do all this, but this was a perfect offseason. 3 year deals or less, kept our specs, didn't give up any picks. Still have all out top prospects.
If Doubront, Lavarnway, and Middlebrooks take the next step in their respective careers we could make things interesting.
Jackie Bradley Junior.... that is all
we could include doubront in a deal to get stanton or a really good pitcher

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal
Sources: #Cubs in serious discussions with Anibal Sanchez. Deal could be 5 years/$75 million. #Tigers still a threat.
15 million for 5 years? thats an overpayment?

@LouMerloni
If Ellsbury has a great year, he'll be in Texas next year anyway. So why wait?
The only logical answer for this is if the Rangers (or everyone else) is/ was lowballing us. They can't think of us as a contender, no freakin' way. And even if Ells performs great and teams in the race would like to get him, the value goes down alone for the fact that they can't get compensated if he walks.
Don't look further than Greinke, who wouldn't want to acquire an "ace" who pushes a team over the edge? And the Brewers barely got good value, 1 fringe top 100 spec. And it's unlikely Ellsbury will be more valuable than Greinke was last july.
so the rangers have lost hamilton, napoli, uehara and michael young and lost out on getting greinke and james shields. Probably a great time to get luis sardinas, cody buckel and a lower level prospect for ells
