    Update: Espinosa, Morse trade talks

    There have been some rumblings that he could be traded

    http://mlbbuzz.yardbarker.com/blog/m...?new_post=true

    I don't know why you guys would move him though, but what would you want from the Cardinals in exchange?

    I truly don't know what his value is or what we would look for in return.

    I can tell you that Rizzo is very high on him so there is very little chance he gets moved and i'm not sure what it would take to get him perhaps bullpen help?

    2013 is his "breakout" year in the Nats eyes. They want his 3rd full season to be like Ian Desmond's in terms of finally putting it all together.

    I think he stays unless a proper deal comes along for an arm that is too good to pass on. The team seems comfortable with Lombardozzi if needed and that could potentially open up a spot for Rendon down the road.

    Basically to me it would have to be the right situation for him to be dealt. Don't know who the Cardinals would have that fit that bill. Haven't done any research on it.

    From Jim Bowden, to piggy back off this thread about Espi:

    James Loney and Rays close to one-year deal....Loney would replace Carlos Pena at 1B...also talking to Nats on starter for Morse & Espinosa
    @JimBowdenESPNxm

    I know we've all heard this before about the Rays & Nats so this may further confirms talks. If it happens LaRoche comes back.

    That leaves a big hole at 2nd base that is the only concern i have with this potential trade.

    Espioza and Morse make a lot of sense for the Rays.

    Maybe Shields of Helly for them both?

    I think Lombo could hold it down. And with the projected lineup anyways, Espinosa would bat 8th. Lombo would add more contact than power in that spot and play good defense still. If LaRoche re-signs for 2 and a 3rd year option it could work. Gives team flexibility for if Rendon becomes ready down the road.

    I could see it happening. Hellickson would be cool, he's under control through '17 like Espinosa is.

    It wouldn't be both. Only one.

    @Ken_Rosenthal from earlier today:

    Many #Nationals folks reluctant to trade Espinosa. “He will figure it out,” one says. “Lombardozzi is a good player, but he’s not Espinosa.”
    So I guess we'll see what happens.

    I don't see the Nats trading Espinosa yet, especially not after seeing how much Desmond has improved in the last couple of years. He just has so much potential that I don't think they will give up on him this fast. I think Lombo would be solid too, but he's always going to just be a contact hitter that plays good defense. Espinosa plays better defense and he has the power potential and base stealing as well. I would like to see him just bat right (if he doesn't improve from the left side this season) to see how that would work for him.

    @jonmorosi

    #Nationals remain confident they will get LaRoche. Morse then could be dealt to Mariners, who have big interest.
    Looking more and more at this point like LaRoche will come back IMO. So I feel like we've seen our last of beast mode. He's a free agent after the season so hopefully Rizzo can swing a good deal in return.
