I'd be extremely upset to see Soriano ever play a game for the Phils. Never liked him on the field, poor attitude to go with it. Doesn't run the bases very well, field well, or even get on base.
no thanx...I have never been impressed and it is relatively late in this guys career to have the "change of scenery" improvement to meet his skill level...
he would need to be REALLY cost effective, like basically free
thus, no
It's a good idea, but the cost has to be right. I think he'll end up a little too pricey for what he is.

I rather platoon Ruf and Brown in LF until RUf shows he can be an everyday player. And just go out and get a 3rd basemen and another OF that can play at a high level.
RH bat with pop. What's not to like if the price is right? You can pull out all the defensive stats you want, but we've been to 4 WS (and won 2) with Pat Burrell, Raul Ibanez, Pete Incaviglia and Greg Luzinski patrolling LF, and I don't think there's anyone who can blame Inky (93) or Ibanez' (09) defense for why we didn't win the other 2.
Defense is really only important in slow December Internet chat forums.
Fact.
I'd go after Soriano AND Hamilton. But that's probably why I'm not in charge of the Phillies.

They have to eat 35 of the 36 million
Then I am in.
The question is would you take him if the cubs ate all of this years and most of next years contract allowing us to then add Pagan or Bourn, Youkalis and an 8 th inning reliever for the money we have to spend.
Pagan
Rollins
Utley
Howard
Ruiz
soriano
Youkalis
brown
Not too bad.
What level of prospect would convince the cubs to eat the entire contract.
Valle, Cloyd, and Schwimmer.?

Add Soriano and Hamilton and we will.
B spec and 1/2 the cash and I'm in.

I have a soft spot for Soriano, but not at the expense of blocking Ruff. PASS
I just don't see it being a good fit. The Phillies are going to need a low-cost corner outfielder if they bring somebody in. The Cubs aren't going to eat enough money to make that happen.
A reasonable trade from a player perspective would be Jonathan Pettibone for Soriano. If you were the Cubs, would you give up your left fielder and $20 million for Pettibone? Of course not. You'd at least want May and Valle included.
As the Phillies, would you trade for Soriano at $7.5 mil per season if it cost Pettibone, May, and Valle? Of course not.
