Per Doug Padilla:

A tiny piece of bone that was believed to be affecting a nerve was removed from Stewart's left wrist. According to Stewart, despite multiple MRIs over the last 18 months, the removed piece of bone wasn't pinpointed until an examination at the Cleveland Clinic shortly after he went on the disabled list on June 14.

At the very least it's a cheap mistake. I'm fine with Stewart returning. Good guy and a better glove than most of the other available options.

Soria is coming off Tommy John surgery, but it seems like the bar for relievers has been pretty well established. Hard to see anyone getting much more outside of Rafael Soriano. Maybe Mike Adams, but he's coming off a surgery season, too.

Other rumors on the 1st day of the Winter Meetings:
*The Cubs have told RP Carlos Marmol that he is trade bait, but won’t just give him away. No surprise!
*The Cubs are looking at RP and Jason Grilli is one player on their list.
*The Cubs are expected to ‘kick the tires’ on OF Grady Sizemore. They would try to sign him to a low deal and try to get a high reward out of it. However, Sizemore is undergoing a minor surgery and is expected to miss the beginning of the season.
*Unconfirmed rumor: The Cubs and Braves had a meeting today, but we don’t know about what and what players were being tossed around.
