I think Dickey will be a Ranger by Friday, and Olt and Martin will be Mets. Just a hunch

Olt and Martin would give us 3 huge needs. A top of the order bat, a middle of the order bat, and an outfield. With the Royals GROSSLY over paying for Shields and Davis, Martin and Olt will look like a steal for Texas. It's either Dickey or over pay Sanchez. Do the right thing JD!

So, when you get right down to it, Arencibia is the best available option, unless Sandy pulls a rabbit out of his hat. J.P. has some pop, hits left handed pitching reasonably well (to the tune of .244 with a .500 SLG last year) and is under team control through 2016. He's our guy.

Otherwise, your lineup looks OK (I like the Ross idea too) except that I think Olt would spend at least the first half of the season in Las Vegas, while Nieuwenhuis and Hairston (who I still believe Sandy will sign) share right field.
Except AJ is a lefty catcher that can actually hit.

I'd keep Thole in AAA and use Recker as the back-up then. JP will not be a Met if we deal with Texas. We don't really have anything to offer.

Olt is already 24, so I think it's time for him to show what he's got in the big leagues. He did very well in AA Round Rock and hitting in Vagas proves nothing. I'd take Hairston back for the right price, but I'd want Ross as well.

Agreed. We have too many Murphys on the Mets, we need players with big tools and ability. In this case, Martin with speed and arm, and Olt with power and arm. I really hope this materializes.

True. But assuming they don't get Dickey, I think they's deal Arencibia for Gee straight up. Might even do it for Familia or Mejia and a lower level prospect.

If we can make a satisfactory deal with Texas, I'd love to see Alderson offer a good package to Toronto and get Arncibia along with Emilio Bonifacio.

    Bonifacio - LF (S)
    Murphy - 2B (L)
    Wright - 3B (R)
    Davis - 1B (L)
Hairston - RF (R) platoon with Nieuwenhuis (L)
    Martin - CF (L)
    Arencibia - C (R)
    Tejada - SS (R)

If Martin takes off and shows he is ready to hit major league pitching well, move him into the leadoff spot.

The idea apparently is to play JPA, and then let D'Arnaud take over some of the duties at some point.

At that point, I'd just sign AJ Pierzynski and Kelly Shoppach in a platoon since we'd have money to spend and no one to really spend it on.

We could sign Cody Ross as well.

    CF-Martin(L)
    2B-Murphy(L)
    3B-Wright(R)
    1B-Davis(L)
    LF-Ross(R)
    C-AJ(L)
    RF-Olt(R)
    SS-Tejada(R)

4 righties and 4 lefties. Very balanced. We can trade off some guys like Kirk for whatever needs we have.
I like the way you think. Also could use Familia in the pen as well as deal Kirk (like you mentioned) and Duda to bring in some live arms for the pen.

I have concerns with signing AJ but him batting lefthanded is not one of them.

And if while discussing signing him Sandy even brings up Thole he should be fired on the spot.

Thanks. It all falls on whatever they do with Dickey. The strategy would change dramtically if he stays. They would still need to find 2-3 starting outfielders and a catcher, not to mention pen arms. I find it hard to believe they'll fill in all those holes through the FA market. Hopefully something like my scenario plays out.

Honestly, if the best we are gonna get for Dickey is Olt, then I would rather just keep him. Im not up for trading a legit star for a role player. We should trade role players for role players if thats what we plan on doing. We missed our chance by not trading Reyes or Wright for the kind of future stud bat impact player.

Trade Gee and Flores for the best fielders we can possibly get with them.

Dickey and Niese are now the best pitchers in the market. So they will need to overpay for either. Great news!

Olt, a role player? He has an inpact power bat and a very good arm. He could become a role player because no prospect is a guarentee, but that is why I want Martin as well.

Yeah, I did underrate him a bit there, its late and I'm pretty salty about the rays getting Myers still hah.

But I dunno I just don't feel like this is a gotta do it can't miss trade. His defense and how it will be in outfield is just too big of a questionmark to be really excited about it. If we get another promising player along with him that plays a great outfield and has a good bat ill probably warm up to it.
