I never suggested that Pennington wasn't successful. He was very solid, and I have mentioned him as being the only QB other than Ken O'Brien that this team has successfully developed over the past 40 years.
The Jets played to his strengths. They went with a west coat type passing offense with a HOF back. It worked well until Curtis Martin got too old, and the O-Line couldn't protect Pennington.
And for the record, most Jets fans hated Pennington because he couldn't throw the ball down the field, and floated mid range passes.
Pre shoulder surgery he had a more than average arm. If McElroy can play like Pennington pre surgery than he gives us a better chance at winning IMO. Our runn first style does mesh well with bonehead throws and a ton of turnovers. And for the record I wish mark tons of luck but I don't see it happening.
