And to your second point, this is more so what I was getting at. The years might be a debatable point, but the money should be right around there.
Meh, given his whole history, the OBP context of the league, and the general run suppression of his park it's something I got over pretty quickly. It looks ugly and obviously it doesn't have zero value, but I see alot of people cling to that number as if it's the only one we should pay attention to.

Big fan of Bourn but not for long term. I don't trust guys who depend on their speed turning 30, long term.

I don't see any chance in hell we make Bourn and offer. When has it ever been reported that we have an intrest and actually happens not to often...however there have been moves made out of no where A LOT and that seems to be the front office MO.

If that scrappy performer is a 30+ SB .350 OBP guy with legit leadoff stuff that plugs a hole for us on defense then yeah we should pay big money for a 4 year deal

Most people here would probably pony up for 4 years. Not many of us want the years that'll likely be required to net Bourn.

Kenny Lofton stayed pretty healthy and fast, too.

I think Cubs fans might be gun shy because of Soriano, but Sori's a big guy who anyone with a brain knew wouldn't maintain his speed. Bourn is small and hasn't lost a step at all. I think there's a good chance he keeps his elite speed through a 6 year deal. Not that I want a 6 year deal...

Difference is that Bourne has a better BB%, hits for a bit more power, is an elite baserunner, and plays MUCH better defense in CF as opposed to Theriot having terrible defense playing mostly 2B.

I hate the word scrappy. Bourn's better than a scrappy CF. I'd say he's a very good CF. Scrappy implies that he does well despite not having any elite skill. Having said all of this, I would gladly give Bourn a 4-year deal for around $60 total. I wouldn't want to go any more than $16 million per season, though.
