Jason Bay for 7 years? That's absurd. I did really like Bay when he was with the Sox though.
7 years is too much for most players, especially once they hit their 30s. I would definitely sign a guy like Stanton for 7 years but that list would be very limited.

Yeah you lock up anyone worth a damn under 25 for 7 years. They'll only be 32 when the contract ends and if they want to stay 2 or 3 years is plenty. If not, so long, farewell dude. I don't want anyone over the age of 35 for more than a 2 year contract. It's not worth the risk in probably over 95% of all cases. It would have to be a front loaded contract with an affordable backend but teams just don't do it that way.
