How about how he carried the Mets offense for the whole 1st half this year? Did we forget that he posted a line of .351/.441/.563/1.004 in the first half this year?
...and that was without guys like Reyes, Beltran and Wright around him, nobody was even close to that kind of production on the Mets and obviously the minute he stopped hitting at that pace the Mets stumbled.
For the record here are the 2nd half numbers of those 4 guys in 2008
Carlos Delgado .303/.386/.606/.991, 21 homers, and 63 RBI
Carlos Beltran .307/.395/.534/.928, 12 homers and 46 RBI
Jose Reyes .289/.345/.459/.804
David Wright .330/.406/.582/.988, 16 homers, 54 RBI
Funny how things are remembered, David Wright was just as productive as Delgado was the 2nd half of 2008. Heck, Beltran was pretty damn good himself too, sorry, but Delgado did not carried the offense on his shoulder on the second half of that year. He had some huge hits, but as always it was those 4 guys doing all the damage for the Mets while their pen imploded and staff went only 5 innings or so.
