I don't know why that wouldn't have happened already.

The Toronto Raptors have agreed to sign veteran shooting guard Mickael Pietrus, USA TODAY Sports has learned.

According to two people with knowledge of the situation, veteran small forward Dominic McGuire is likely to be released by the Raptors in order to make room for Pietrus. The Raptors (3-13) need help, and the addition of Pietrus is expected to be finalized on Friday.

The two people spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced.

Fourth-year shooting guard DeMar DeRozan leads Toronto in scoring at 18.1 points per game, although the Raptors rank 17th in scoring at 95.9 points per game.

Pietrus played in 42 games with Boston last season and 38 games with Phoenix the season before. The career reserve who shoots with range and is a quality defender has averaged 8.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in his nine-year career.

Well, he's better than McGuire but he still sucks.

I dont really see why people are so unhappy about this. Mcguire was playing like 20 something minutes a game. Now pietrus who is better than mcguire will play those same minutes.

because people want to see Ross get most of those minutes...not Pietrus.

Why? He is playing terribly on Sacramento. Pietrus is a system player and knows his limits. Pietrus played better last season on a good playoff team than Johnson is playing right now with a floundering bottom-feeding team.

Ross has been inconsistent so far even in extended minutes. It wouldn't be such a bad idea to add a quality role player to the mix for insurance.

Yeah but he had heart problems so we backed out of the deal. He didn't really shoot that well in Boston but he was a decent contributor for them defensively.

I would say so as well but our GM needs to stop using our PG position as a crutch. We need playmaking from our other positions as well. Calderon kills ball movement and Lowry wants to play hero ball, we need other players to contribute in that area as well.
